John King leads Dakota’s Syracuse office. With over 18 years in the financial services industry serving private wealth/high net worth clients, John’s dedication to providing a high touch client experience is driven by his passion for excellence.
Prior to joining Dakota Wealth Management, John worked for Key Private Bank, Bank of America, and JP Morgan Chase. In his 15 years with Key Private Bank, he grew his practice to over $1.3 billion in assets under management.
John’s area of expertise is partnering with business owners and institutional clients to develop plans to help grow, protect, and transition their wealth. As a Certified Merger and Acquisition Advisor® (CM&AA®), John continues to focus on helping clients transition their companies to the next generation or third-party purchasers and has advised on the buy side of many transactions. John also holds the Certified Wealth Strategist® (CWS®) designation issued by the Cannon Financial Institute.
John received his bachelor’s degree from Elmira College, and is currently pursuing his MBA from Syracuse University and the Whitman School. He is on the board of directors of First Tee of Syracuse and is the Co-Director of the Jamesville Dewitt Youth Lacrosse organization. He was recipient of the 40 under 40 award1 for Central New York in June 2016 and most recently was named best-in-state wealth advisors2 by Forbes/SHOOK. John was also recently accepted into Forbes Finance Council, an invitation-only community for executives in accounting, financial planning, wealth and asset management, and investment firms.3
